Juxtaprose

It is gauche to celebrate how much you make.
It is gauche to lament how little you make.

I agree with the two statements seperately.
But I am not sure I agree with the implied conclusion of this juxtaprose.
How about you?

    that’s true.
you can only really know that money doesn’t matter for happiness until you have it (money or happiness)

I think the underlying issue that gets drawn out is one of ‘contentment’, and it’s a demonstration to others where your priorities lay.

It’s in poor taste to praise your wealth. If your wealthy and need to praise how much you have you feel one of two things: insecure in your wealth standing and therefore need to tell everyone about your position. And second you have little regard for the feelings of those to whom you praise your wealth. For the very motivation of praising your wealth is to either elevate yourself to someone else’s level or to belittle someone else that doesn’t match up to your status.

It’s in poor taste to lament your poverty. If your poor and need to lament your financial status then you are demonstrating an expectation for implied financial equality that should be delivered to you in either the form of a financial or opportunity handout.

By either lamenting your poverty or praising your wealth, you are demonstrating that you are not content with your current financial position. This dis contentedness is only a side-effect of a much greater problem in the outlook upon life. One who is discontent does not recognize that the Lord is their provider and will supply all that they need. They will not starve and they will not have more than they need if they are seeking his will to use their resources for him.

    Wow, my thoughts exploded.
